One year into his second term, President Donald Trump has installed political appointees across the vast apparatus of the federal government, from cabinet-level department heads to thousands of other officials at a variety of executive agencies.Â
ProPublica has been requesting financial disclosures for these appointees and has published those it has acquired in a searchable database. Now, journalists, researchers and others can more easily find and connect pieces of financial information about those in key executive branch positions: their assets, positions they have held outside government, their debts and other potential conflicts of interest.
This informational webinar will show reporters and editors how to navigate the database and use its search features, as well as define key terms. ProPublica journalists will also explain the reporting process, outline the data’s limitations and demonstrate how both newsrooms and the public can use it to develop stories.
